Pride & The Future

It’s been a busy couple of weeks. Students have been clamoring for every available hour I have to prepare for finals next week. This afternoon was quiet, though, it’s the earliest I’ve ever been able to get off the farm and I don’t have students on Fridays or Saturdays. Yeah, I made sure I worked days off into my schedule this term.

There’s a bunch of stuff I want to share and talk about. So, this is going to be an Interests & Excitement post! Remember when I did one of those once? Well, it’s back.

Retreat – a video blog in two parts

Part 1 – What It Means

Part 2 – Where I’m Going

In case you missed it, I just posted my 50th blog post a few days ago.  Isn’t that exciting?!

UPDATE:

I was reading this blog, someone else’s account of his failure and why it is meaningful to embrace it.  He embedded a video of J.K. Rowling’s Harvard commencement address back in 2008.  It was extremely meaningful to me, so I’ve included it below.

Preflight vlog – Going to DC

Some thoughts I had as I waited at the gate for the plane that would take me to my new life in Washington DC.

American Healthcare and Capitalism

I have long been doubtful of capitalism. Keep in mind that I did not just say that I have long been anti-America. Based on my research, capitalism is not a core American value, it is merely an American tradition. I think innovation and an ability to disregard harmful anachronisms are key values. And I don’t feel less American for it.

I love this country. I think up until the last decade or two, it was easy for people to say America is the best country on Earth. I think America can get it back. We just need to shrug off the burdens of recent history and look to the future with hope.
